HOW TO MOUNT USING PRESSURE-SENSITIVE (SELF-ADHESIVE) FOAM BOARD

How To Mount Using Pressure-Sensitive (Self-Adhesive) Foam Board
Pressure-Sensitive (Self-Adhesive) Foam Board :: Manual >> Roll Laminating Machines - Heated Roller

These instructions are designed for mounting using pressure-sensitive (self-adhesive) foam board with or without Heated Roller Roll Laminating/Mounting Machines or Cold Roll Laminating Machines.

Mount Only - Manual:
To mount an image to a self-adhesive board without lamination, laminating film must NOT be threaded on the laminating/mounting machine and heat should be shut off. NOTE: Mounting can be done manually without a laminating machine as well.

  1. Start by carefully removing the board from the box.
  2. Peel release paper back about 1/2" and fold back against board, leaving 1/2" sticky area exposed.
  3. Place self-adhesive board on a flat surface with exposed adhesive side up.
  4. Slide print to be mounted into desired position on top of the folded release paper. Gently allow the print to come into contact with the adhesive, pressing from center toward outside edges of board.
  5. Gradually pull back release liner from under print. Allow the remainder of the print to come smoothly into contact with the adhesive. Gently smooth print down board with soft cloth removing any air bubbles and wrinkles until print is completely mounted and release liner is removed entirely.

Mount Only - Roll Laminating Machine (Heated Roller or Cold):
To mount an image to a self-adhesive board without lamination, laminating film must NOT be threaded on the laminating/mounting machine and any heat should be shut off.

  5. Adjust roller or set nip pressure setting to thickness of the board being used (ex. 3/16", 1/4", 1/2", etc.)
Note: Some laminators have fixed pressure settings - follow recommendations in operations manual.
  6. Slowly insert board into roller opening. Ensure board and image are centered and straight. A gentle push may be required to get board started between the rollers.
  7. As board moves through machine, gradually pull back release liner from board. Rollers will apply pressure to print and smooth print onto board as it passes through the machine.
  8. Board will feed through the laminator and automatically exit the back of the laminating machine.

Mount & Laminate (Dual or Single-Sided) - Roll Laminating Machine (Heated Roller or Cold):
In order to mount and laminate in one step, laminating film must be threaded on laminating machine.  To encapsulate (dual laminate) both the top and bottom film rolls should be threaded on the laminating machine.  For single-sided lamination, only the top roll of film should be threaded on the laminator.

  5. Make sure laminating film is threaded properly. See operators manual or How to Load Laminating Film (add link when avail). To encapsulate board, both top and bottom rolls of film should be threaded and aligned over one another. For single-sided lamination (laminate over image), only top roll of lamination film should be threaded.
Note: To thread laminator for one roll of film, begin by using a leader board the width of the laminator. This will prevent the top roll adhesive from coming in contract with the bottom roller. Follow the leader board immediately with the self-adhesive board.
  6. Adjust roller or set nip pressure setting to thickness of the board being used (ex. 3/16", 1/4", 1/2", etc.)
Note: Some laminators have fixed pressure settings - follow recommendations in operations manual.
  7. Ensure machine is preheated and has reached recommended or preset temperature setting, if applicable.
  8. Slowly insert board into roller opening. Ensure board and image are centered and straight. A gentle push may be required to get board started between the rollers.
  9. As board moves through machine, gradually pull back release liner from board. Rollers will apply pressure to print and smooth print onto board and laminate in one pass as the board moves through the machine.
  10. Board will feed through the laminator and automatically exit the back of the laminating machine. For single-sided lamination, immediately follow mount board with leader board, stopping rollers when leader board is between rollers. This prevents adhesive from coming in contact with bottom roller.
CAUTION: Board and laminate will be HOT when exiting a heated roller laminating machine!
  11. Cut laminating film to separate mount board using Quik-E cutteror other trimmer / utility knife.
  12. Allow board to cool completely on a flat surface to help prevent warping when using heated roller laminating machine.
