How To Mount Using Heat-Activated Adhesive Board Heat-Activated Adhesive Board :: Roll Laminating Machines - Heated Roller
These instructions are designed for mounting using heat-activated adhesive board with Heated Roller Roll Laminating/Mounting Machines.
Mount Only:
To mount an image to a board without lamination, laminating film must NOT be threaded on the laminating/mounting machine.
- Start by carefully removing the adhesive board from the box. Remove protective liner, if applicable.
- Using a clean "sticky" roller, clean the board of any dust particles. (Suggested product: Dust Cleaing Roller & Tacky Pad #7178)
- Center image to be mounted on board.
- Place cover sheet (included in box of adhesive board) over top of image/board. Make sure to cover board completely so no adhesive is exposed.
- Adjust roller or set nip pressure setting to thickness of the board being used (ex. 3/16", 1/4", 1/2", etc.) Make sure opening is wider than thickness of board so when inserting board cover sheet does not wrinkle and can be used again.
Note: Some laminators have fixed pressure settings - follow recommendations in operations manual.
- Ensure machine is preheated and has reached recommended or preset temperature setting.
- Rotate rollers to ensure even heating across full roller surface for optimal mounting results.
- Slowly insert board into roller opening. Insure board, image and cover sheet are centered and straight. A gentle push may be required to get board started between the rollers. Hold board, image and sheet in place as enters rollers to prevent any shifting placement.
- Board will feed through the laminator and automatically exit the back of the laminating machine.
CAUTION: Board will be HOT!
- Allow board to cool completely on a flat surface to help prevent warping.
Mount & Laminate (Dual or Single-Sided): In order to mount and laminate in one step, laminating film must be threaded on laminating machine. To encapsulate (dual laminate) both the top and bottom film rolls should be threaded on the laminating machine. For single-sided lamination, only the top roll of film should be threaded on the laminator.
- Make sure laminating film is threaded properly. See operators manual or How to Load Laminating Film (add link when avail). To encapsulate board, both top and bottom rolls of film should be threaded and aligned over one another. For single-sided lamination (laminate over image), only top roll of lamination film should be threaded.
Note: To thread laminator for one roll of film, begin by using a leader board the width of the laminator. This will prevent the top roll adhesive from coming in contract with the bottom roller. Follow the leader board immediately with the heat-activated mount board.
- Adjust roller or set nip pressure setting to thickness of the board being used (ex. 3/16", 1/4", 1/2", etc.)
Note: Some laminators have fixed pressure settings - follow recommendations in operations manual.
- Ensure machine is preheated and has reached recommended or preset temperature setting.
- Slowly insert board into roller opening. Insure board and image are centered and straight. A gentle push may be required to get board started between the rollers. Hold board and image in place as enters rollers to prevent image from shifting placement.
- Board will feed through the laminator and automatically exit the back of the laminating machine. For single-sided lamination, immediately follow mount board with leader board, stopping rollers when leader board is between rollers. This prevents adhesive from coming in contact with bottom roller.
CAUTION: Board and laminate will be HOT!
- Cut laminating film to separate mount board using Quik-E cutteror other trimmer / utility knife.
- Allow board to cool completely on a flat surface to help prevent warping.
