How To Mount Using Cold Pressure-Sensitive Decal Roll Laminating Film and Mount Board or Other Substrate Use Cold Pressure-Sensitive Decal Roll Laminating Film to create Self-Adhesive Mount Boards :: Cold Roll Laminating Machine
These instructions are designed for multi-step mounting and laminating (if desired) using cold roll mounting adhesives, mounting board (or other substrate) and a Cold Roll Laminating Machine.
To create self-adhesive mount board using cold roll mounting adhesives, mounting board (or other substrate) and a Cold Roll Laminating Machine, only the top mandrel of the laminator should be loaded and thread with a roll of mounting adhesive. Bottom mandrel should be empty or not thread.
- Start by carefully removing the mounting board from the box.
- Using a clean "sticky" roller, clean board of any dust particles. (Suggested product: Dust Cleaning Roller & Tacky Pad #7178)
- Adjust roller or set nip pressure setting to thickness of the board being used (ex. 3/16", 1/4", 1/2" etc.)
Note: Some laminators have fixed pressure settings - follow recommendations in operations manual.
- Next load cold roll mounting adhesiveon TOP mandrel. DO NOT remove release liner. Bottom mandrel should not be loaded with any lamination film. If any film is loaded on the bottom mandrel, it should not be thread on the machine. See operations manual for film loading instructions.
Note: To thread laminator for one roll of film, begin by using a leader board the width of the laminator. This will prevent the top roll adhesive from coming in contract with the bottom roller. Follow the leader board immediately with the mount board.
- Slowly insert board into roller opening immediately following leader board. Ensure board is centered and straight. A gentle push may be required to get board started between the rollers.
- As board moves through machine mounting adhesive will be adhered to board.
- Board will feed through the laminator and automatically exit the back of the laminating machine. Immediately follow mount board with leader board and STOP machine rollers when leader board is between rollers. This will prevent adhesive from getting on machine rollers.
- Top of board should now be release liner of mounting adhesive - creating self-adhesive mount board.
- Cut board from mounting adhesive using Quik-E cutteror other trimmer / utility knife.
Mount Only - Manual:
- Start by carefully peeling release paper back about 1/2" and fold back against board, leaving 1/2" sticky area exposed.
- Place self-adhesive board on a flat surface with exposed adhesive side up.
- Slide print to be mounted into desired position on top of the folded release paper. Gently allow the print to come into contact with the adhesive, pressing from center toward outside edges of board.
- Gradually pull back release liner from board. Allow the remainder of the print to come smoothly into contact with the adhesive. Gently smooth print down board with soft cloth removing any air bubbles and wrinkles until print is completely mounted and release liner is removed entirely.
Mount Only - Roll Laminating Machine - Cold: To mount an image to a self-adhesive board without lamination, laminating film must NOT be threaded on the laminating/mounting machine.
- Adjust roller or set nip pressure setting to thickness of the board being used (ex. 3/16", 1/4", 1/2", etc.)
Note: Some laminators have fixed pressure settings - follow recommendations in operations manual.
- Slowly insert board into roller opening. Ensure board and image are centered and straight. A gentle push may be required to get board started between the rollers.
- As board moves through machine, gradually pull back release liner from board. Rollers will apply pressure to print and smooth print onto board as it passes through the machine.
- Board will feed through the laminator and automatically exit the back of the laminating machine.
Mount & Laminate (Dual or Single-Sided) - Roll Laminating Machine - Cold: In order to mount and laminate in one step, laminating film must be threaded on laminating machine. To encapsulate (dual laminate) both the top and bottom film rolls should be threaded on the laminating machine. For single-sided lamination, only the top roll of film should be threaded on the laminator. For cold roll laminating machines, cold overlaminate films must be used (ProTac, Expression or Print Shield Overlaminating Films).
- Make sure laminating film is threaded properly. See operators manual or How to Load Laminating Film (add link when avail). To encapsulate board, both top and bottom rolls of film should be threaded and aligned over one another. For single-sided lamination (laminate over image), only top roll of lamination film should be threaded.
Note: To thread laminator for one roll of film, begin by using a leader board the width of the laminator. This will prevent the top roll adhesive from coming in contract with the bottom roller. Follow the leader board immediately with the self-adhesive board.
Rollers will apply pressure to laminate and print simultaneously smoothing print onto board and laminate over print in one pass.
- Board will feed through the laminator and automatically exit the back of the laminating machine. For single-sided lamination, immediately follow mount board with leader board, stopping rollers when leader board is between rollers. This prevents adhesive from coming in contact with bottom roller.
- Cut laminating film to separate mount board using Quik-E cutteror other trimmer / utility knife.
