How To Mount Using Mount Board Mount Board :: Vacuum/Dry Mount Mechanical Press
These instructions are designed for mounting using foam mount board and dry mount tissue with Vacuum or Dry Mount Mechanical Presses.
Mount Only:
- Start by carefully removing the mount board from the box. Remove protective liner, if applicable.
- Using a clean "sticky" roller, clean board of any dust particles. (Suggested product: Dust Cleaning Roller & Tacky Pad #7178)
- Prepare print. Reduce the moisture level in porous prints and substrates by pre-drying if necessary.
- Place print upside down on flat surface and tack dry mount tissue (this is a dry adhesive) on back of print/artwork using a tacking iron. When tacking tissue into place, a piece of release papershould be placed between tacking iron and tissue. Note only tack one small area of the adhesive to the print.
- Trim tissue/adhesive to desired size of print. Dry mount tissue is available in both rolls and cut sheets.
- Place print face up onto the mount board in desired position. Carefully lift print and tack a small area of the adhesive to the substrate. When tacking, a small piece of release paper should be placed between the iron and adhesive.
- Ensure press is preheated and had reached a temperature of 160 to 175 degrees Fahrenheit.
Note: Excessive temperature may result in damage to the mount board. The thickness and weight of the material being mounted may require settings to be adjusted. In general, it is better to increase dwell time before attempting to increase temperature.
- Place the assembled materials between two sheets of release paper and insert into press. The recommended dwell time for a vacuum press is 3 to 10 minutes and 30 seconds to 4 minutes for a dry mount mechanical press depending on the size and type of substrate being used.
- Remove mounted print from the press. Allow board to cool completely under cooling weightsfor best results.
Mount & Laminate:

- Trim laminate to desired size and place on top of print.
- Trim sponge overlay to desired size and place on top of print. Sponge overlay is used to ensure smooth even lamination results when using a press. Assembled piece should now be stacked (top to bottom) sponge overlay, laminate, print, dry mount tissue, and mount board.
- Ensure press is preheated and had reached a temperature of 225 degrees Fahrenheit.
Note: Excessive temperature may result in damage to the mount board. The thickness and weight of the material being mounted may require settings to be adjusted. In general, it is better to increase dwell time before attempting to increase temperature.
- Place the assembled materials between two sheets of release paper and insert into press. The recommended dwell time for a vacuum press is 4 to 16 minutes and 1-1/2 to 8 minutes for a dry mount mechanical press depending on the size and type of substrate being used.
- Remove mounted print from the press. Allow board to cool completely under cooling weights for best results.
